The Junior division is the mid-tier level of softball play in BNBSL and the first level of competitive play within ECWSL. Players do all the pitching and the pitching distance increases to 40 feet. Coaches work with players to hone throwing (players should be able to throw and catch a ball from across the diamond), catching, and hitting skills (players should be able to independtly demonstrate proper batting mechanics). Limited stealing of second and third base is allowed (baserunner may leave when the ball crosses the plate). This level is open for girls in grades 5 and 6. The Junior division has playoffs at the end of the season.
Players should have an appropriate size glove and helmet with face mask, and fielding masks are required. At this level, the ball is a 12 inch hard softball. BNBSL provides balls and appropriate bats. Players will receive a team jersey and hat which should be worn to each game.
